Melamine Cyanurate (MCA)
发布者:HTJ  发布于:2024/2/22 9:18:31  点击率:718

Melamine Cyanurate (MCA), with its excellent thermal stability, low smoke generation, low toxicity, and good flame retardant properties, is widely used in various polymer materials for enhancing fire safety. When added to plastics, rubbers, fibers, and electronic and electrical products, it forms a dense char layer under combustion conditions that effectively isolates oxygen, slows down flame spread, and significantly reduces smoke density and toxic gas emissions, particularly without producing corrosive hydrogen halide gases.

In addition to its role as a flame retardant, MCA also serves multiple other purposes. For instance, in the plastic processing industry, it can act as a crosslinking agent when compounded with materials like phenolic resins or hydroxyethyl cellulose, thereby increasing the hardness and wear resistance of plastic products. In the textile industry, it can be used as a scouring aid, improving fiber treatment processes and enhancing fabric dyeability and durability.

The production of melamine cyanurate typically involves specific preparation methods, such as reacting melamine and cyanuric acid at certain temperatures (100-200°C) and pressures (0.05-1.5MPa) using an aqueous ammonia solution as a solvent, yielding a product with particle sizes ranging from 5 to 55 microns and a purity level exceeding 99%.

In summary, due to its high efficiency, environmental friendliness, and versatility, melamine cyanurate plays a crucial role in several industries, especially in meeting increasingly stringent fire safety regulations and environmental requirements, making it an ideal choice for a flame retardant additive.

Melamine Cyanurate (MCA), as a high-performance and halogen-free environmentally friendly nitrogen-based flame retardant, is suitable for a variety of polymers. Here are some major application areas:

1. Nylon (PA): It is particularly well-suited for non-reinforced nylons (such as PA6 and PA66), significantly enhancing their flame-retardant properties to UL94V-O standard while maintaining good mechanical properties, electrical properties, and colorability.

2. Polyester (PET, PBT): When added to these thermoplastic engineering plastics, MCA can effectively improve their flame resistance levels with minimal impact on the material's physical properties and processing performance.

3. Polypropylene (PP), Thermoplastic Elastomers (TPE, TPU), Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate Copolymer (EVA), Unsaturated Resins, Polyurethane, etc.: In these polymer systems, MCA also exhibits excellent flame retardancy, improving the fire safety and combustion resistance of the materials.

4. Silicone Rubber: When used as a flame retardant in silicone rubber products, MCA not only provides superior flame retardance but also preserves the inherent physical-mechanical properties and processing characteristics of the material, such as avoiding film formation and maintaining good physical properties.

5. Wires and Cables: MCA can be used in the production of low-smoke zero-halogen cable compounds, ensuring reduced emissions of toxic gases during fires and aiding in the formation of an insulating char layer that protects circuits from flame damage.

6. Other Resins: In applications where halogen-free, environmentally friendly, low smoke, and high-efficiency flame retardancy are required, MCA can also be considered as a flame retardant additive for resins like epoxy resin, polytetrafluoroethylene resin, and other olefin resins.

In summary, melamine cyanurate is a widely applicable flame retardant, especially suitable for polymer products with high flame retardancy requirements and a need for environmental compatibility.
